Getting Started with Piano Chord Practice
This app helps you practice piano chords and chord progressions in different keys. Follow these steps to get started:
1. Select Your Settings
- Key: Choose the musical key you want to practice in.
- Hand: Select whether to practice with right or left hand.
- Chord Types: Check the chord types you want to include (major, minor, 7th, etc.).
- Inversions: Select which chord inversions to practice (root position, first inversion, etc.).
- Progression Style: Choose from preset progressions like Common, Pop, Jazz, etc., or use Random.
2. Playback Options
- Enable Audio to hear the chords as they're displayed.
- Adjust Volume using the sliders.
- Enable Metronome for timing practice.
- Select Octave to set the range of the notes you will hear (The keyboard display does not change).
- Check Arpeggiate to hear the notes played one at a time instead of together.
- Set Lead-in Beats to hear metronome clicks before the progression starts.
3. Start Practicing
- Press the Start button to begin the progression.
- Or Use Step to advance manually through the chords.
- The Back button returns to the previous chord.
- Stop ends the practice session.
4. Understanding the Display
- The chord progression appears as pills at the top of the screen. The active chord is highlighted.
- The piano keyboard shows the notes of the current chord. Finger numbers indicate suggested fingering.
- The current progression style appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Use the BPM(beats-per-minute) slider control to increase or decrease the tempo.
Practice Tips
- Start with simpler chord types and add complexity gradually.
- Practice in different keys to become familiar with all chord positions.
- Use the Step button to work on difficult transitions between chords.
- Try different tempos - start slow and gradually increase speed.
